The LB1005-S high-speed servo controller with a bandwidth of 10 MHz can easily and intuitively stabilize the frequency or amplitude of the laser, and, unlike competing products currently available, the LB1005-S type servo controller is an all-in-one solution - no expensive external rack required. This high-speed proportional Integration (P) controller features an intuitive front panel that independently controls the angular frequency of the proportional integration, the overall co-serving gain and the low-frequency gain pole eye. This flexibility allows the LB1005-S to be used in cascade with other units for high-speed control of diode lasers via piezoelectric sensors and current modulated inputs. The LB1005-S model is ideal for demanding applications including atom/ion capture, Bose-Einstein aggregation, frequency metrology, quantum optics, and high-speed stabilization of lasers. Although narrow-width lasers are used in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, their short-term wavelength stability is generally insufficient for many applications where active stability is not available. Feedback (or co-service) control forces a system (such as a laser) to actively "lock" to a desired value, such as a specific wavelength - automatically correcting for external interference that could cause the system to deviate from the desired value.

 

The New Focus LB1005 high-speed coservice controller provides critical signal processing electronics for performing feedback control. In the case of wavelength locking, the error signal is generated by transmitting a portion of the laser output through a wavelength reference, such as a gas chamber or a gauge. Any wavelength instability is converted into an amplitude charge that can be detected by a photodetector. The resulting error signal is filtered by the LB1005 co-service controller to form a control signal that is sent back to the laser.
